Equity

Our Mission

The Autoimmune Protocol exists to help people better understand their bodies, navigate autoimmune disease with clarity, and build supportive community around evidence-informed health practices.

Through education, practical tools, and shared experiences, this site aims to empower people living with autoimmune disease to pursue health in ways that are sustainable, compassionate, and grounded in reliable information.

Creating spaces where people feel respected, represented, and supported is an important part of that work.

Our Commitment

The Autoimmune Protocol is committed to building a health education community that is inclusive, respectful, and accessible to people of all backgrounds and identities. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue wellness and participate fully in the autoimmune community.

Autoimmune disease affects people across every age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, body size, ability level, nationality, and background. The community seeking answers and support should reflect that same diversity.

Context

Access to healthcare, health education, and wellness resources is not equal. Structural barriers—including racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, and economic inequality—affect who has access to care, safe environments, nutritious food, and supportive community. These realities influence health outcomes and the ability to pursue wellness.

Recognizing these barriers is an important part of building a more inclusive autoimmune community.

How We Practice This Commitment

Within the scope of this work, we aim to support a more inclusive wellness community by:

Using inclusive language.
We strive to use language that respects the diversity of our community and avoids harmful or exclusionary terminology.

Amplifying diverse voices.
We seek opportunities to collaborate with and highlight practitioners, educators, and creators from historically underrepresented communities in health and wellness.

Creating welcoming learning spaces.
Through articles, educational resources, and community platforms, we aim to cultivate spaces where people feel respected, supported, and safe to learn.

Improving accessibility.
We work toward making content more accessible through practices such as captions, transcripts when possible, and thoughtful website design that supports accessibility tools.

Continuing to learn.
Addressing bias and inequity requires ongoing education and reflection. We remain committed to listening, learning, and improving over time.

Community Expectations

We strive to maintain spaces where people feel safe to learn and share their experiences with autoimmune disease.

Participation in The Autoimmune Protocol community—including community platforms, comments, and social spaces—is expected to reflect the following principles:

  • Respect for people of all identities and backgrounds
  • No harassment, discrimination, or hate speech
  • Constructive and compassionate communication
  • Respect for differing health experiences and perspectives

We reserve the right to remove content or restrict participation that violates these principles.

A Living Commitment

Equity and inclusion are ongoing practices. This page reflects our current commitments and will continue to evolve as we learn, grow, and deepen this work within the autoimmune community.

Our goal is to help create a wellness space where everyone living with autoimmune disease can seek health, find community, and feel represented.
